Urban Exploration

I can’t share most of my own urban exploration stories at the moment for a variety of reasons. But in the meantime, feel free to explore this site of a group thats had far more adventures than I

http://www.actionsquad.org/

(I found them on a google search, Action Squad is completely unrelated to Minneapolis Underground (if they want to change that, send me an email anytime))

Dubstep

For someone who has never heard dubstep, I pity you. And unfortunately it is impossible to describe.

Allmusic describes it as “tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals”. Creating the music is extremely difficult, which explains why some of the best dubstep artists look more like math and music engineering nerds than puffed up rock stars. Spending hours hunched over computer screens, synths and more technical DJ equipment than I understand these unique musicians create amazing shows of intensity and feeling.

The creation of dubstep is easy enough to explain (if not do) but the feeling is even more difficult to put down unless you’ve been to a show and watched the scantily clad women and shirtless men throw their arms in the air as stage lasers flash through the generated fog while the base rattles the deepest parts of your ribcage.

In lue of that, looking at this picture is the next best thing.

Venues

Welcome to minneapolisunderground.org. In this section I offer global reviews of top music, dance, theater and otherwise awesome places to go in the Twin Cities. I don’t have time to review every event, but hopefully this section will give you a good idea of where to go on those nights where nothing special seems to be going on

Enjoy

Rock

Minneapolis doesn’t have the thriving underground rock scene comparable to its hip hop and dubstep mainstay, but the dream of the rockstar means someone will always be trying to hit it big in small bars and local venues. I’ll keep you posted if I find anything worth trekking out to.

Even if rock isn’t your thing, finding good music in a genre you don’t like is always an adventure

Theatre

Theater is an amazing thing, if you haven’t learned to appreciate it yet, or if the only exposure you’ve had was a poorly done rendition of Romeo and Juliet in high school be sure to check this space for news on whats going on.

The Guthrie, despite being a hardly underground location, actually does a very good job of putting together a mix of wonderful performances. I attend them regularly and will review them from time to time. But please send me any information you have about small, radical, street, or otherwise unique shows going on in less trodden areas.
